Arriva and age concern help ‘silver surfers’ make the most of I.T!

Local bus and rental company, Arriva, is donating £4,000to Age Concern Hertfordshire so that the organisation can continueto give more older people the opportunity to get to grips with theever changing world of I.T.

The dedicated computer training facility, based in Hatfield, gives older people the opportunity to use computer technology tokeep in touch with family and friends, use the Internet to find outbus and train timetables, and even order their shopping online forhome delivery.

The project started in 2002 and since then over 200 olderpeople, some in their eighties, have taken advantage of thecomputer training with many saying the opportunity had greatlyimproved the quality of their lives.

Heath Williams, managing director for Arriva the Shires andEssex, said:

We were delighted to donate £4,000 to help thecentre.
Arriva has relationships with, and has provided supportto, Age Concern groups elsewhere in the country – and so I amparticularly pleased that we can support such a valuable schemeright here in Hertfordshire.

Arriva's donation has ensured more older people haveaccess to the many benefits that the internet offers, with previoususers now using e-mail to stay in touch with loved ones. By workingwith Arriva we can continue to make a difference for older peoplewith this project.
