Arriva employees put best feet forwards – and support race for life

Twenty-eight women from Arriva plc's Doxford Park offices, local bus company Arriva North East, and Sunderland Arriva Vehicle Rental site are preparing themselves for a arduous challenge – raising money for Cancer Research UK by running in the Sunderland Race for Life on Sunday 5 June.

The race is part of a national campaign to raise money and awareness of breast cancer – and to fund research into better preventative medicine, and possible cures.

Despite the rest of Arriva's employees from the three locations not taking part, they still don't get away with it so easily – being asked for generous sponsorship and donations to boost the money raised by the race.

Lynn Perry, human resources executive for Arriva Vehicle Rental, explains:

Cancer Research UK is Arriva's charity of the year for 2005 and so we want to raise as much money as we possibly can for them. It's wonderful that so many women from Arriva have pledged themselves to run – and that the rest of our colleagues are doing their bit by helping us raise the money that the event is all about.

The women have been training hard to ensure that they are in peak fitness and prepared for the 5km test of stamina.

Lynn added:

Everyone who has signed up to run has been working hard to ensure they are fit and ready for the challenge – the company's gym has seen much sweat and effort, and the grounds of Doxford Park have witnessed many a training session!
