Arriva Netherlands has signed a 15-year maintenance contract with Stadler who will manage the servicing and maintenance of 36 new trains for Arriva’s high-profile Limburg contract. The latest milestone ahead of the contract beginning on 11 December also saw the first of the new trains unveiled at Stadler’s Blerick-based maintenance facility.

Anne Hettinga, managing director of Arriva Netherlands said: “I am extremely proud and would like to pay a huge compliment to those responsible for ensuring that these new trains will be running on the tracks in Limburg from 11 December onwards.

“Arriva is looking forward to that milestone and the unveiling of the first train shows the contracting authority and customers that we are on schedule with the implementation process.” The new trains, which will vary between two and three car units, will feature additional legroom, wide doors, power sockets and leather seats.

Arriva will begin operating the Limburg bus and rail contract from 11 December for 15 years. Arriva Netherlands already provides bus and rail services in the provinces of Drenthe, Flevoland, Friesland, Gelderland, Groningen, North Brabant, South Holland and the Wadden Islands.
