Vince rewarded for outstanding personal contribution

Vince Goane, one of Arriva London's general managers, has beenrewarded by Transport for London for his outstanding personalcontribution to the bus industry. Vince received an award fromLondon Mayor, Ken Livingstone in recognition of his 30 years'commitment to improving bus services in the capital.

The award was made following nominations by Arriva Londonmanaging director, Mark Yexley and voting by a committee of seniormanagers at Transport for London.

Vince began his career as a bus driver operating in Enfield backin May 1974. Since then, Vince has held positions as an inspector,a garage inspector, an assistant operating manager, operatingmanager and now general manager with responsibility for Tottenham,Clapton, Stamford Hill, Barking and Leeside Road garages. Asgeneral manager, Vince has responsibility for around 1,500employees and works with a team of managers to ensure the efficientservice of some 450 buses.

And the bus industry has become something of a family affair forVince too – with one son and a brother also working for Arriva inLondon.

Vince commented:

I was surprised but very pleased to receive this award.I have been committed to trying to keep improving the bus industryfor over 30 years and this recognition is fantastic.
In my time at Arriva, I have overseen the opening ofnew garages, the operation of new contracts, introducingarticulated buses to services in London and, most recently, theopening of a learning centre at Tottenham Garage. I am immenselyproud to have been part of the team that has made such achievementsin London.

Mark Yexley, managing director for Arriva London, said:

I am delighted that Vince has had his dedication andcommitment to the bus industry recognised in this way. When askedto nominate for this award, I had no hesitation in putting Vinceforward and am not at all surprised that he was chosen to win theaward.

Vince has five children ranging in age from 25 to 42 and ninegrandchildren.
