Bus operator Arriva today announced it will be introducing afleet of brand new vehicles into North Wales.

From 17 June, a total of 21 new buses will hit the road,representing an investment of over £2.5 million from theregion’s largest public transport company. They willmainly be employed on the popular 12 service, between Rhyl andLlandudno, and will all be low floor, enabling easier access forthose with mobility problems and mums with prams. CCTV isalso fitted to each vehicle for added safety.

The buses will also feature the latest in environmentalstandards; a pioneering new fuel process that produces exhaustfumes comprising mainly of steam! This will be achieved byusing a substance called Adblue, which reacts with the exhaust toproduce nitrogen and steam, both of which are harmless.

Bob Hind, managing director for Arriva North West and Wales,said:

"This is Arriva’s single biggest investment in the Welshbus market and will have a hugely positive benefit for the peopleof North Wales.
"Not only have we spent £2.5 million on new buses, butexisting low-floor vehicles will also be transferred onto otherroutes, meaning that the number of easy access buses in the areawill increase dramatically. The environmental impact is alsoimportant and clearly demonstrates our continued commitment tocleaner air".
Councillor. Trefor Roberts, chairman of Taith, the North Walespublic transport board, said:
"I'm very pleased to see such a significant investmentin public transport for North Wales. The buses themselves arevery impressive; they look extremely comfortable and there isplenty of room for wheelchair access and prams. We should beencouraging as many people as possible to make use of such a highquality service".
