Arriva appoints new group health and safety manager

Arriva plc, one of Europe’s largest transport servicesorganisations, has appointed Jeremy Corfield as its new grouphealth and safety manager.

Based at Arriva’s head office in Sunderland, the41-year-old takes on responsibility for developing thegroup’s strategic health and safety policies and proceduresacross 12 European countries. 

Jeremy, from Gateshead, will oversee compliance withArriva’s safety certification system and will supportArriva’s bus and rail businesses in maintaining anenvironment in which the safety of employees and customers comesfirst. 

A widely experienced health and safety professional, hisprevious roles span the public and private sectors.  He hasbeen an environmental health specialist for the MOD, and worked forSunderland City Council, CSC, and the Department of Health. Most recently he worked for global engineering, construction andservices company Kellogg Brown and Root on logistics, constructionand facilities management projects in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Jeremy said: “Although working in the harshest and mosthostile environments is challenging, working to maintain health andsafety standards at Arriva has just as wide a range of challenges;with 44,000 employees, in 12 countries and 3 million passengerjourneys every day, nothing can be taken for granted.
