Arriva awards pupils for good citizenship

Over 30 school children from Knowsley are to be awarded fortheir good citizenship, at a special ceremony at Liverpool TownHall on Monday morning.

Transport services organisation Arriva is working with theFoundation for Citizenship at Liverpool John Moores University topresent the youngsters with Citizenship Awards.

The awards are presented to those children who have shownoutstanding achievements ranging from sporting accomplishments,coping with serious illnesses and giving their families and friendssupport during difficult times.

Earlier this year, schools in Knowsley were invited by Arriva tonominate a pupil who had shown great strength of character and whohad stood out as a shining example of good citizenship.

Bob Hind from Arriva and Lord David Alton of Liverpool JohnMoores University will present the awards to the children at aspecial ceremony. The Lord Mayor of Liverpool, the Mayor ofKnowsley and Knowsley's director of education, Steve Munby, willalso be at the event.

Bob Hind, divisional director Arriva North West and Wales,said:

This is the third year that we have been involved withthese Awards, and it is an honour to be associated with them onceagain. The children show tremendous strength and deserve therecognition that the Awards and the ceremony give them. We aredelighted to be able to support the event.

Lord David Alton, the May Makin Chair in Citizenship atLiverpool John Moores University said:

We're delighted that Arriva has agreed to continue tosupport our Citizenship Awards scheme.
All Merseyside schools are part of the initiative andit is now being used as a blueprint for the nationalcurriculum.
