Arriva Trains Wales wins safety award

A train driver commentary technique developed by Arriva TrainsWales in partnership with consultancy Halcrow has won an industryaward.

The prestigious HSBC Rail Business Awards took place in thepresence of 800 senior figures in the UK rail industry atLondon’s Grosvenor House. The awards reward excellencein business, technology and engineering as well as safety andsecurity in stations and trains.

Arriva and Halcrow’s Risk Triggered Commentary (RTC)technique is used as tool to help drivers to improve their memoryrecall to reduce the risk of an operational incident. The techniquehas been proven to improve memory retention and control risk fromdistractions through a verbal rehearsal during risksituations.

The benefits extend further than train driving and can apply toa range of staff that carry-out safety critical tasks.
