Transport company Arriva is taking the lead in customer petcare, by allowing dogs to travel for free on all its buses inWales.

From 1 August, the 50p dog single fare will be scrapped, offering owners free pet travel throughout Arriva’s extensivenetwork in north and mid Wales.

Derek Bowes, commercial manager for Arriva North West and Wales, said: “Some people may think we are barking mad to allow freetravel for dogs, but all we are doing is bringing the companypolicy in line with the rest of our UK operations.  Many ofour customers in Wales like to travel with their dogs as part oftheir daily routine, so we thought we would give them an extraincentive.

“We have been sniffing around for new ways to make ourservice more attractive and we hope that dog-lovers appreciate themove. We certainly believe it will encourage more people totravel with their pooches – and they won’t even need arover ticket!

“Of course, guide and hearing dogs have always beenallowed free travel, so now we can’t be collared for dogdiscrimination either.”

“Also, it is important to point out that dogs must beaccompanied by their owners to qualify for free travel.”
