Trehafod’s young artists to unveil mosaic at local railway station

Arriva's Trehafod Railway Station in the Rhondda Valley is to benefit from an arts project on Friday (28 April 2006) when artistic youngsters from Porth County Community School, Hafod Primary School and Trehafod Youth Club will unveil a mosaic created as a focal point for the station over the past year.

The mosaic depicts the journey of coal by train from the Rhondda Valleys to Cardiff and is part of a 'Pit to Port' project to illustrate local culture and history and how the hard working people of the Rhondda helped to shape the prosperous Cardiff docks area.

The project has been supervised by Mobile Arts Project with support from Communities First and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The mosaic will be unveiled by pupils from Porth County Community and Hafod Primary schools at Trehafod Station at 1pm on Friday 28 April 2006. Media opportunities will be available followed by refreshments at Hafod Primary School.
